Catch-Up & Cleanup Bookkeeping

Months — or years — behind on the books? It's more common than you think, and it's fixable. No judgment, just a clear path back to current.

Behind Is Not Broken

The shoebox of receipts. The bank statements nobody has reconciled since last year. The CRA letters that are getting harder to open. If this sounds familiar, know two things: you are far from alone, and the problem is smaller than it feels once someone starts working through it methodically.

Jane's Ledger rebuilds neglected books for individuals and small businesses in Prince George and Northern BC — quietly, confidentially, and without a lecture. Your information is treated with the highest level of confidentiality, always.

How Catch-Up Works

Why Acting Now Beats Waiting

Late-filing penalties and interest grow with time, and unfiled years can hold up benefit payments, financing, and even the sale of a business. The CRA is consistently more workable with people who come forward and get current than with files it has to chase. Every month you wait adds a little more cost and a little more stress — and the fix starts with one conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many years back can you go?

As far as needed. Whether it's eight months or eight years, the process is the same — rebuild the records from bank statements and CRA slips, reconcile, and file. Older years just take a little longer.

Will I owe penalties for filing late?

If you owe tax, late-filing penalties and interest apply — and they grow the longer returns stay unfiled. If you're owed refunds, there's typically no penalty at all, and refunds can generally be claimed for up to ten years. Either way, getting current stops the bleeding.

What if I've lost receipts and records?

Very common, and workable. Bank and credit card statements reconstruct most of the story, and many slips can be retrieved directly through your CRA account. We work with what exists.

How long does catch-up bookkeeping take?

It depends on the volume and how many years are involved — simple situations can be resolved in a couple of weeks, larger rebuilds take longer. You'll get an honest timeline at the free assessment before anything starts.

Will you judge the state of my books?

No. Falling behind is one of the most common reasons people call, and it usually happens to capable people during busy or difficult seasons of life. The only thing that matters is getting you current.

What happens after I'm caught up?

Most clients move onto simple monthly bookkeeping so it never piles up again — but there's no obligation. Getting current stands on its own.
